It’s a great time of the year for pictures and music
Wednesday, October 10th, 2007I’ve been keeping the roads hot lately. It’s been almost two weeks since I posted and I’ve seen 13 bands since then. More on that in a minute though.
Last Saturday I photographed the Hay Bales and Pumpkins Limited Edition set that we do every year. It was the best yet! Leann’s PaPaw brought one of his tractors for us to use as part of the background. That coupled with the great setting at Leann’s grand-mother-in-law’s place. You just couldn’t go wrong.
Here are a few of my favorites.

This is also the place that we’re doing Family Portraits next week. Here’s an example of one of the “looks” we can get there.
The light is GREAT there and there is nothing distracting to take the viewers attention away from the subject. I’m really lucky to be able to work there! We have a FEW appointments available for Thursday the 18th and Friday the 19th (Saturday is sold out). If you’re interested give Leann or Denise a call at 706-602-1997.
This Weekend
The Calhoun Gordon Arts Council is hosting a Blues Fest and BBQ. 7:30 start time. The bands are Bill Sheffield http://www.billsheffield.com/ , Sammy Blue, and the Blues Doctors. I’ve seen Bill before and it’ll be a good show. I saw Sammy Blue open for someone a few years ago. It was a little too “showie” for me. It bordered on a rock n roll lounge act. If you go for the “show” more than the music you’ll probably dig this one. Come to think of it, the music was good. I just couldn’t get past the showmanship. Now, for the Blues Doctors. I haven’t seen THIS incarnation of the band. But I’ve seen John Barton and Paul Shoffner together several times. Paul is a great Harp player and there is NEVER a dull moment with Barton fronting a show.
I’m gonna have to join the Arts Council if they’re going to support things like this.
The Last Several Shows I’ve Seen
As I said above I’ve been keeping the roads hot. I went to Huntsville a couple of weeks ago to a festival there. Last weekend I went to a Bluegrass festival in Chattanooga. I’ve seen, and heard a LOT of live music lately. Here are some of my favorite pictures.
Scott & Beth gave me a place to lay my weary head while in Huntsvile. Scott has been a best friend for more than 20 yrs.

Dell McCurry. Dell was one of Bill Monroe’s original Bluegrass Boys.
The Lovell Sisters. From what I can gather they’re pretty huge on the Bluegrass circuit. They sing like angels and they’re from right here in Calhoun! If you know these folks, put in a good word for me. I want to photograph them!
